The data, published by Warranty Solutions Group and based on real-world warranty claims, highlights significant differences in both fault rates and repair costs across popular models – offering valuable insights for drivers and dealers alike.
The Nissan LEAF topped the reliability rankings with an impressively low claim rate of just 3.06%. This reinforces the LEAF’s reputation for robust engineering and dependable performance, making it an attractive choice for EV buyers seeking peace of mind.
Its simplicity of design, proven electric drivetrain, and strong track record for durability all contributed to its standout reliability.
Since making its debut in 2010, the Nissan LEAF has sold close to 700,000 units worldwide, earning its place in history as the world’s first mass-market electric vehicle.
In June this year, Nissan unveiled the third generation of LEAF which boasts a sleek design, significantly extended range, and intuitive technology that is seamlessly integrated for today’s connected driver.
Martin Binnee, Operations Director at Warranty Solutions Group, said:
“As EV adoption accelerates, managing customer expectations around reliability and repair costs will be key to maintaining confidence in the market.
‘‘The winners will be those who proactively educate customers, offer tailored support, and provide products that genuinely protect against the financial impact of EV faults. This isn’t just about selling warranties; it’s about safeguarding the long-term EV ownership experience.
“For dealers and warranty providers, offering comprehensive EV-specific cover is now essential to support customers and protect against the financial impact of these more expensive faults. As the EV market grows, understanding these differences is crucial for managing ownership expectations and maintaining customer confidence.”
A Nissan spokesperson said:
‘‘The fact that LEAF is a car they can truly count on is great news for the many thousands of owners in Britain and around the world. The third-generation model – which we’re incredibly excited about – is certain to follow in its forebears’ footsteps as a very dependable choice.’’
Since forming in 2021, WSG has cemented its position as one of the UK’s leading warranty companies and today supplies warranty and other products to over 2,500 motor dealers.
